About this course
Content
Correlation, simple and multiple linear regression, one-way analysis of variance and covariance (ANOVA/ANCOVA), non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test, two-way ANOVA (with/without interaction), general linear model (GLM), logistic regression, survival analysis (Kaplan-Meier method, log-rank test, Cox proportional hazard regression model).
Learning outcomes
After successful completion of KLMED8005 the student should
- have achieved theoretical knowledge about statistical methods (see academic content) commonly used within medical research to examine simple and more complex issues
- be able to choose statistical method for analyzing data, given scientific question of interest, study design, and characteristics of empirical data (application of theoretical method)
- understand the main principle of estimation and hypothesis testing in relation to the different theoretical methods
- be able to perform the technical work with statistical analyses of empirical data by means of a statistical program package
- be able to critically evaluate validity of results in view of assumptions on the statistical model
- be able to interpret and describe the results from statistical analyses of empirical data (for methods described in academic content)
Teaching methods
Lectures and exercises. Approved compulsory exercise (one individual hand in) from the same or previous semesters are required to sit for the exam. Approved compulsory activities are valid for three subsequent semesters after approval.
