About this course

Content

The course KLH3102 focuses on health promotion through obesity prevention, for children, grown-ups and families. Different general health promotion interventions and approaches are discussed. Methods used in obesity prevention are discussed in detail. Also, the role of the family, school, community and workplace in health promotion in general and prevention of obesity in particular, are explained, together with their potential and pitfalls. Costs and benefits of obesity prevention will be outlined. The role of the government and the food industry, as well as the role of the media and the role of the towns’ infrastructure in obesity prevention will be discussed.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course KLH3102, the student:
• has insight into the models, approaches and settings for health promotion
• is able to discuss the cost/effectiveness of obesity prevention
• has basic knowledge on the potential role of government, food industry and media on obesity prevention
• is acquainted with current guidelines of prevention of childhood obesity

Teaching methods

Lectures, dicussions and internship. Attendance on lectures are compulsory. In re-scheduled examinations the assessment form may be changed to an oral examination. The course may be cancelled if too few students register for examination. The course will be lectured in English if international students register within the deadline.
