About this course

Content

The course covers visual identity and branding, with an emphasis on strategy, concept development, process, and rationale. The students develop a complete visual identity based on a realistic brief. The delivery includes implementations and touchpoints that form part of the work, and the process is documented in a report at the end of the semester.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:

  • The student, upon completing the course, will have knowledge of the development of visual identities.
  • The student has experience with and knowledge of processes for developing visual identities.
  • The student has knowledge of the parts/components that a visual identity typically includes.

Skills:

  • The students will be able to apply this knowledge in a methodical way to develop and implement a visual identity program for communication touchpoints.
  • The students will be able to demonstrate the necessary technical skills for developing and implementing design solutions for both print and screen.

General competences:

  • The student will be familiar with the role and value of branding in the modern consumer society.
  • The student will be able to develop a complete visual identity, including guidelines for use, in the form of a simple design manual for both analogue and digital platforms.
  • The student will be able to contribute with their expertise in visual identities in branding processes.

Teaching methods

  • Groups of two or individual project work, with weekly ongoing supervision (formative-iterative evaluation).
  • Sketches, work processes, and results must be documented.
  • Digital process documentation is to be maintained throughout the project.
