Typography 2

The course Typography II consists of practical design assignments continuing onwards from the course Typography I. Typography II contains excercises in typographic composition and coloration of text and shape elements onto a space. Conceptual development and congeniality in typography is important in this course in addition to conscious use of esthethics and congeniality.

The assesment in this course puts wieth documentation of work process and self reflection.

The course is split in two parts which both consists of several assignments.

The first part is based upon exploration of graphic variables. This is about basic typographical questions; how to develop a clear idea; the co-play of size, position and direction; exploration of white-space and typographical complexity. Text is composited and developed into different shape- and colour variants. The variants form a contionous process towards a final solution.

The second part is about concept development and congeniality in typography. The assignment is about seeing, making and understanding the connection between language, culture, typographical form, style and colour. This through analysis of collected material and iterative exploration of esthetic principles and cultural conventions.

The course consists of lectures as well as group based or individual tutorials. The tutorials follows the assignments and the lecturer will be accessible both by request and based on defined times. Active participation in the tutorials is expected through cooperation and dialoge with the lecturer and fellow students.
