Practical traning in social work

In this course, students will have practice placement in social work, either in Norway or abroad. Through the course, students will acquire knowledge and experience in the planning and implementation of social work, as well as reflecting on social work from own perceptive as a professional social worker. The practical study builds upon the knowledge and experience the students have from the subject of social work in the two previous academic years.

Knowledge
The student has
- knowledge of the organization of the internship
- knowledge of current social policy and legal frames related to the workplace's tasks
- knowledge of interaction and collaboration with institutions relevant to the practice site
- knowledge about structuring and conducting professional conversations - knowledge of the relationship between the personal private and professional dimensions in Client work/
Knowledge of supervision as a Phenomenon, Aid and Support

Skills
The student can
- Structure and conduct a professional conversation
- Reflect on ethical dilemmas in practice
- Apply theoretical knowledge in practical action and written work - Reflect on the power aspect of the relationship between social workers and clients / users - facilitating user involvement in interaction with clients / users

There is one week of practice placement preparation at the university before the practice period starts. After practice placement there are workshops with practice summary and different skills training. Teaching at the university alternates between lectures, seminars, group work and individual presentations. In the placement the student is affiliated with a place where social work is carried out. The student will follow the placements routines and assignments and receive weekly guidance from supervisor. The student will follow the working hours at the place of practice as on ordinary job. The student is entitled to one study day per training week.
