Norwegian and Nordic History after 1750

The course provides students with an in-depth exploration of selected topics in Norwegian or Nordic history after 1750. It will also challenge students by presenting important theoretical and methodological questions relevant to the topic of the course. The topic, time period and perspectives can vary from year to year. Possible topics include, governance, absolutism, enlightenment, the Nordic model, nature and environment, business life, labour organization, migration etc. The topics on offer within this course will vary from term to term depending on available staff at the Department. The topics on offer will usually be designed according to the individual lecturer's research interests. A candidate who passes this course is expected to have the following learning outcome according to the course curriculum, defined as knowledge and skills.

• has comprehensive knowledge about most important developments within the specific field of modern Norwegian and Nordic history
• in-depth understanding of the different theoretical and/or methodical perspectives and approaches in this field

Skills

The candidate is expected to

• be able to reason, argue and orientate on chosen topics within the course's thematic scope
• reflect orally and in writing on key issues and scholarly debates
• use empirical knowledge and theoretical perspectives analytically

Lectures, seminars and/or individual assignments. Some topics might entail excursions. The obligatory activity from a previous semester can be approved by the department.
