About this course

Content

The principle, process, evaluation of results, and quality management. Chemical and enzymatic reaction principles, measuring methods including spectrophotometry, emission of light, electrochemistry, chromatography, and electrophoresis, calibration of measuring methods, preanalytical, analytical and biological variables. Nuclear medicine focused on radiation physics, nuclear medicine measurement methods and radiation protection.

Learning outcomes

After attending the course, the student can:

  • Explain quantitative methods commonly used in medical laboratories.
  • Use a range of methods and analytical instruments commonly used in medical laboratories and understand how the instruments work.
  • Explain the impact of preanalytical influence on a range of analytical results.
  • Assess the quality of analytical results according to given rules and reflect on their own professional practice.
  • Explain the use of nuclear medical methods.
  • Find, evaluate and follow current guidelines for protection against radiation.

Teaching methods

Lectures and 4 lab courses, including written and oral assessments. Expected total workload: Lectures: 35 hrs. Lab courses: 45 hrs. Self study: 130 hrs.
