About this course

Content

This course is based on basic disease theory and what kind of changes takes place in affected/diseased cells and tissues. Knowledge related to laboratory techniques to detect changes and sickness.

Basic techniques of cell and tissue preparation for light microscopy: general color theory, theory and practical histological coloring, cutting and microscopy of cytology slides.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge - the students:

  • Are able to acquire knowledge about the normal processes and processes of the body that reflect disease in the body's organs.
  • Are able to describe the bioengineer's core competence, responsibilities and tasks under the conditions of the pathology laboratory.
  • Are able to explain methods, laboratory equipment and tasks that refer to bioengineering in histology, cytology and immunohistochemistry/molecular pathology
  • Are able to describe how the analytical, pre- and post-analytical conditions that can influence analytical responses, as well as explain key definitions and apply professional terminology
  • Are able to explain the process for the sample through the laboratory from requisitioning the sample until the test results are ready.
  • Know how cells and tissue structures are analyzed as part of diagnostics, follow-up and treatment of disease in the body's organ.
  • Can describe morphology and recognize cytological images of cytology preparations at normal conditions and patological conditions.
  • Are able to explain internal quality controls.
  • Are familiar with research and development work in the field.
