About this course

Content

Introduction to the discipline cellular pathology with focus on basic techniques in theory and practice: preparations of cells and tissue for the light microscope, processing and microtomy, staining theory, staining methods and normal gynecological cytology. The course includes an interdisciplinary approach to immunological techniques: basic theory and practice, antibodies as an analytical tool, central methods used to analyses different biological samples (fluids, cells and tissue). Troubleshooting and quality assessment of application methods, interpretation of the results, will be emphasized.

Learning outcomes

The student should be able to:
-describe the core competencies of the profession (bioingeniør) in the discipline cellular pathology: tasks and field of responsibility in the laboratory
-explain central definitions and use scientific terms
-describe the processes in preparations of cells and tissue for the light microscope
-describe and draw figures of the principles of immunological methods
- describe the theoretical principles of detection and metric methods
-suggest possible sources that may affect the quality of the results and explain why (central principles, performance, results)
-Recognize and describe the morphology of normal cells in pictures of gynecologic(cervix) cell preparations.

Teaching methods
