Development of Ideas, Projects and Artistic Research

FVP3010 Development of ideas, projects and artistic research is a course at master's level with a twofold focus:

The first consists of the student's artistic development as a filmmaker and as disciplinary film practitioner. Throughout the course the student works on defining which technical, methodological and conceptual areas they want to explore and develop during their time as a master's student. This serves as a foundation for the student's individual immersion and artistic development, selection of topic for their written Master's Thesis, and the focus/specialization the master's student conducts through their work with the Master's Production

The second area of focus concerns working on ideas and the development of a concrete film project. This film project is developed to be pre-produced during the second semester (FVP3003 - Preproduction course for Master's production), and then produced and completed as the Master's Project during the second year of the master's programme (FVP3200 - Master's Production and Master's Thesis in Film Production).

Upon successful completion of the course the student has in-depth knowledge of:

• Idea and project development
• Script development (documentary / fiction)
• Dramaturgy / structure (documentary / fiction)
• Production studies and principles for artistic development

Skills

Upon successful completion of the course the student knows how to:

• Develop film ideas and projects
• Prepare and conduct research (documentary / fiction)
• Develop project descriptions and project grant applications of a professional standard for film productions
• Plan, reflect upon, and communicate about one's own film practice and artistic development

Lectures, seminars, group sessions, supervision and production works.

Mandatory activities

• Presentations
• Attendance - Students are required to attend and participate in a minimum 80% of the course classes.

The requirement of 80% attendance and active participation is absolute. The legitimate absence of 20% covers absence due to illness or other causes. Absence exceeding the 20% limit is not accepted, even if it's caused by circumstances students are not responsible for. In specific cases, like serious or long-term illness, special needs accommodation can be arranged by application to the department
