Currents in Film Studies

FVP3002 is a master's course that provides an overview of theoretical and historical perspectives and approaches specific to film studies.

Knowledge

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have knowledge of:

• Film studies as an academic tradition
• The relationship and interaction between theory, history, and analysis of film

Skills

Upon successful completion of the course the student is able to:

• recognize the connections between various film research traditions and understand the central underlying interests that have shaped them
• explore the role of film theory in analyzing and interpreting films.
• identify different film-theoretical traditions and how they approach several central issues.
• describe the development of film-historical knowledge by identifying some of the main methodologies and concepts of film as a medium

Lectures, seminars, screenings. Teaching is usually conducted in Norwegian, but may take place in English. Students are required to stay updated on any information given by the department or course director via Canvas. This course is taught in Norwegian or English.
