Documentary

FVP2004 is an undergraduate course in film production that focuses on traditions and theory related to the documentary film, and the role of the documentary filmmaker in society.

Knowledge

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have knowledge of:

• the history of documentary films
• different modes of documentary film
• key concepts in documentary film theory
• the different forms of expression and distinctive features in documentary films
• the ethical responsibilities of the documentary filmmaker

Skills

Upon successful completion of this course, students will know how to:

• account for the development of the most prominent periods in the history of documentary
• account for the most important concepts within the documentary theory
• conduct an analysis of a documentary film
• discuss the responsibilities of the documentary filmmaker towards society and community

Lectures and screenings. This course may be taught in Norwegian or English, pending staff availability.

Compulsory assignments

Up to 2 individual submissions must be completed and approved before students can take the course exam.
