Grammar and Phonology

Central aspects of French grammar are covered, such as the use of articles and tense. The relation of form and meaning to French syntactic structure is emphasised. Contrasting aspects of French and Norwegian will be central, and will be linked to translation from Norwegian to French. Central aspects of French phonetics/phonology will also be covered.

Candidates who have passed this course
- are able to describe the basics of French phonetics/phonology.
- are able to utilise this knowledge in spoken French.
- are able to identify different French phrase structures, starting with the verb.
- are familiar with syntactic terms and can utilise them in syntactic analysis.
- are familiar with the differences between phrase structure in Norwegian and French.
- are able to relay their knowledge in written and spoken French.

Lectures and group sessions with discussion. Study groups. The course is taught in French. 80% attendance is required in lectures and seminars.

Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.
