French Proficiency and Grammar

FRA1200 is a general introductory course in French focusing on proficiency training in the French language, both written and oral. The course consists of two parts. Part one is taught as a seminar focusing on practical proficiency training in French. Part two provides a more thorough theoretical introduction to the same topic.

Candidates who have passed this course
- can express themselves in written and oral French.
- are familiar with basic syntax and morphology.
- are able to explain differences in word order between Norwegian and French.
- can make efficient use of reference books (dictionaries, electronic dictionaries, Bescherelle).
- are able to conjugate and systematically describe French nouns, adjectives, verbs and pronouns.

- Seminar in proficiency during the first half of the semester. The main focus is on practical assignments.
- Lectures and seminars with discussion. Study groups.
- Film showings and subsequent discussion.
- Oral and written proficiency training.

The course is taught in French. 80% attendance is required in lectures, seminars and film showings as well as during the intensive course Pangstart in the beginning of the semester.
Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.
