French proficiency

The course focuses on French proficiency. The first weeks of teaching consist of an intensive seminar in French grammar. By actively participating in a writing workshop, students practice their skills in writing different types of texts. Focus is on the idiomatic usage of French and mechanisms for creating coherent texts. Throughout the semester students also work on improving their oral proficiency.

By attending FRA1010 you will also qualify to register for the DELF or DALF exams offered by the French Institute (Institut français) in Norway - diplomas to certify your French-language skills in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

• can write different types of texts in French and know how to make texts coherent
• can express themselves in French both orally and in writing at an A2/B1 level according to the European reference framework

Candidates who have passed this course,

• can make efficient use of various types of dictionaries (paper based or electronic, Becherelle)
• can utilize their knowledge to support further language learning

Lectures. Intensive course in proficiency at the beginning of the semester (Pangstart). Writing workshop. Group sessions and discussions. Oral and written proficiency training.

The course is taught in French. 75 % attendance is required in all teaching activities (lectures, writing workshop, group sessions etc.) as well as during the intensive course Pangstart at the beginning of the semester.

The absence limit is intended to cover normal sick leave and similar situations. Therefore, you will not be granted valid absence from teaching based on a medical certificate, even if the absence is due to circumstances beyond your control.

In special cases, agreements for exemption can be made with the course coordinator, preferably at the start of the semester.

Obligatory assignments: 4 written assignments.

Approved obligatory assignments are valid for two semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.
