Texts and Methods

Texts and Methods should give students insight into theories and methods for critical analysis of various types of French-language texts. The course has a practical approach, focusing on the terms, techniques and methods for working with assignments in the different disciplines of French studies. Students will learn how to write short academic texts in French. The main focus will be on elements that help structure texts and on how to build an argument.

Candidates who have passed this course:
- are able to understand short French texts in different genres
- have insight in terms used in critical analysis and can utilize these terms in their comments and interpretations
- are able to write short academic texts in French
- are familiar with various means of structuring an academic text in French

Lectures and group sessions with discussion. Atelier d'écriture (writer's workshop) and study groups. Practical assignments. The course is taught in French. 80% attendance is required in lectures, seminars and workshops.

Obligatory assignments: 2 short written assignments in French in connection with the atelier d'écriture.
