Language and Literature

EXFAC0003 Language and Literature is an obligatory course for all students in the bachelor's program in Language and Literature. Students will be provided with an elementary introduction to some basic topics and approaches in both linguistic and literary studies.

The main issue will be an introduction to central analytical terms and categories in literature and linguistics studies. These will be demonstrated through practical analysis.

Lectures will be complemented by seminars and exercises. The course includes one written assignment that must be approved prior to the exam. Each student chooses either a linguistic or a literary topic for his/her written assignment.

Candidates will have obtained the following qualifications after successfully completing this course:

The candidate has a basic overview of some of the theories and methods within linguistics and literary studies.

The candidate has the ability to make use of this theoretical and methodological tools on a specific text material.

The course consists of lectures and groups/seminars. The groups/seminars are based on the lectures though more pratical oriented.

Course requirements: One compulsory written individual assignment of 3 - 5 pages. The assignment consists of both linguistic and literary studies issues. A written assessment of the work (pass/fail) will be provided.

Form of assessment: 4-hours written exam. The exam will include both linguistic and literary themes.
