EU Cultural Policy

The course gives an introduction to EU’s cultural policy and it discusses how and to what extent the idea of a common European culture has become a "missing link" in a presumed European identity. Doing so, it explores relevant fields of European integration such as the draft of a European citizenship or the European Monetary Union from a cultural perspective.

The students should acquire in-depth insight into EU’s cultural policy, and general insight into theoretical approaches to cultural studies. They should also gain knowledge of how notions of European identity and European citizenship are related to the dynamics of a cultural integration of Europe today.

Lectures and group assignments. Assessment: Home exam of approx. 6-8 pages, written in English or Norwegian.
