About this course

Content

The course in systems engineering will focus on different methodologies that provide the students with tools for analysing complex systems in order to design and efficiently operate complex system. Core issues such as the systems engineering process, breakdown and aggregation of needs and requirements, definition of efficiency measures, lifecycle analyses, and trade-off analyses will be assessed. Information modelling techniques will be studied so that students will be capable of applying such principles in their own applications.

Learning outcomes

The course will give the students a basic knowledge of the systems theory and methodologies often applied by systems engineers. The objective of the course is to provide PhD students with efficient tools that enable them to handle and analyse complex systems with the purpose of designing and operating such systems. Such challenges are typically occurring within many different fields, such as energy systems, environmental issues, military systems, public relations, economic systems and others.

Teaching methods

Lectures, seminars and project work.
