About this course
Content
This course will focus on issues of translation from an interdisciplinary perspective. All translation theory approaches will both be discussed. A central issue addressed in the course is the notion of equivalence across languages.
Learning outcomes
Candidates who have passed this course
- are able to describe and analyse the idea of equivalence between languages.
- are able to describe and analyse other central ideas and issues within the field of Translation Studies.
- are able to use concepts and ideas from Translation Studies to analyse translations within different genres.
- are able to describe and analyse different types of translation problems in translations they have produced themselves.
- are able to describe and analyse translation as a linguistic as well as a cultural undertaking.
Teaching methods
Lectures/seminars. Students are required to use its learning regularly.
Obligatory assignment: 1 outline of term paper, approx. 1000 words/2-3 pages
Approved obligatory assignment is valid for 2 semesters.
Assessment: Term paper, approx. 2500 words/6-7 pages
