Modern British History and Culture

This course offers a broad introduction to the political, social, and cultural history of modern Britain. Drawing upon the latest academic research, the course challenges students to think about the complex development of Britain as a nation from the late nineteenth century to the present day. In doing so, students gain important insights into a wide range of topics that continue to shape Britain's national identity.

Candidates who have passed this course
- have basic knowledge of the political, social, and cultural history of modern Britain
- have introductory knowledge of some of the latest academic research on Modern British history and culture
- can reflect on current political, social and cultural issues relating to modern Britain from a historical perspective
- can contextualise a range of important issues relating to the study of English language and literature from a British perspective
- have knowledge of academic approaches and methods used by historians and/or other disciplines from within the humanities
- can produce an independent piece of written work on one or more aspects of modern British history and culture
- are able to demonstrate a good command of written English

Lectures and/or seminar sessions, and supervision. Students are required to use itslearning regularly.
Approved obligatory assignment is valid for 2 semesters.
