Civilization

The purpose of this course is to offer a critical introduction to the social and political structures of one or more English-speaking countries. The course will provide an overview of topics such as population and minorities, political and government structures and issues, presented in a historical context.

Candidates who have passed this course

- have basic knowledge about social and political conditions in the US and Britain.

- are familiar with contemporary arguments and debates within the broad subject area of Civilization.

- are able to compare different English-speaking cultures from political and social perspectives.

- can analyse conditions and factors of a social and political nature within a historical context.

- have gained an important insight into academic approaches and methods relevant to the analysis of the subject material.

- are able to produce independent analyses of Civilization topics that have been explored throughout the course.

- are able to demonstrate a good command of written English.

Lectures, seminar sessions, and supervision. Students are required to use it's learning regularly.

Compulsory assignments
• 1 written assignment, approx. 1200-1500 words.
