Subject Related Didactics as a Field of Research II

The introductory course in subject related didactics as a field of research, Course II, builds upon Course I. The intention is to deepen the students’ knowledge of and insight into research methods with relevance for academic work in the field of subject related didactics. The course emphasizes working with qualitative and quantitative methods, including the research process, research ethics and source criticism. Course II introduces quantitative methods, such as questionnaire design and experimental surveys, and provides a basic understanding of statistics. Additional qualitative methods for discourse analysis and source criticism are presented, and the proficiency in using qualitative methods and analyzing the results is trained through practical assignments. Preparing students for methodological work on the master thesis is emphasized. This course is the groundwork for the more subject-specific course III placed in the third semester (EDU3103).

- has proficiency in producing, bounding and shaping research questions and research problems in the area of subject related didactics
- has knowledge of applied research ethics

Lectures, seminars and discussions. Compulsory assignments and presentations must be approved before the student can apply for the final exam. Attendance is required to the degree that compulsory course work is associated with course instruction.
