Subject Related Didactics as a Field of Research III

The course intends to bring the master students further into work on the master thesis by presenting and discussing outlines for designing the project. It builds upon the student’s insight into qualitative and quantitative methodologies and emphasizes research design and more advanced quantitative tools. Particular subjects include how qualitative and quantitative elements can be combined within one project design, how software tools can be used and how results can be interpreted. Proficiency is also developed through the analysis of current research literature, and significant amounts of teaching, supervision and student activity is done in groups based on subject area (life sciences, social sciences, foreign languages, crafts or aesthetic subjects).

The student
- has advanced knowledge of project design and research methods with relevance for educational studies
- can use quantitative methods for data generation
- has knowledge of the analysis of quantitative data
- has knowledge of software tools for quantitative data processing
- can perform and interpret simple calculations of correlation and regression
- can articulate relevant research problems and research questions, evaluate different methods and use different methods on relevant research problems

Lectures and seminars. Some seminars will be led by the students, and seminars are also used when the students present their work on the master thesis. In these seminars the students receive feedback from other students and lecturers. Compulsory assignments and presentations must be approved before the student can apply for the final exam. Attendance is required to the degree that compulsory course work is associated with course instruction.
