Research Methods in Drama and Theatre

The course is an introduction to research methods in drama and theatre. Students are first introduced to the most common research methods, to then focus on a selection of methodological traditions. Students learn to formulate research questions and develop research designs. The aim of the course is to prepare the students for the bachelor thesis and continuing education.

The course is compulsory for being admitted to the bachelor thesis course. The content of the course can vary from semester to semester, and can be connected to the collegiums relevant research projects.

Knowledge

• knowledge on ethical challenges, standards for use of sources and privacy issues

• ability to formulate and narrow down a drama and theatre-related research question
• can obtain information from various sources and evaluate these critically
• develop, argue for and communicate the choice of design and method in research projects both orally and in academic written form

The teaching in the course is coordinated with the master's course DRA3008. The teaching will vary between lectures and seminars with an emphasis on student-active forms of learning, such as group work or individual presentations.
