Research Methods in Drama and Theatre

The course is an introduction to research methods in drama and theatre. The most common research methods in theatre studies will be presented and how they may be used in various drama and theatre-specific contexts, such as literary studies, research investigating other people's work and research addressing the students' own work. The students will learn to formulate relevant research questions and develop research design in alignment with their own research interests in drama and theater studies. The aim of the course is to prepare the students for the bachelor thesis.

The course is compulsory for being admitted to the bachelor thesis course.

• Expanded knowledge of practices within drama and theatre-related research

Skills

• Skills in academic writing
• Ability to formulate and limit a drama and theatre-relate research topic
• Ability to assess and develop a relevant research design

The teaching consists of lectures and seminars. Students are expected to participate actively in work group and individual presentations.

Teaching is usually conducted in Norwegian but may take place in English.

Compulsory work

• 80 % compulsory attendance
• Individual presentation (and participation as an opponent) must be approved before the final exam (approved/not approved)
