Dramaturgical analysis

The course gives the student a subject-specific understanding of dramaturgical theory and practice in performing arts, with an emphasis on theatre after 1950. The course will expand and further develop the student's ability to apply dramaturgical competence to analyze performances, drama and text for the stage, and to put together and implement dramaturgical concepts. In the course, the student also practices his/her study competence in academic writing.

The course provides an introduction to dramaturgical theory, conventions and perspectives. The course reviews concepts and methodological tools for dramaturgical practice and analysis of relevant stage texts, theater performances and events in context.

The course gives the student skills in the use of dramaturgical concepts and methods, with the purpose of developing both the creative and analytical dramaturgical competence.

Lectures, group work, exercises and presentations individually and in groups. Teaching is usually conducted in Norwegian, but may take place in English.
