Democracy, Citizenship and Human Rights Education

The course aims to shed light on central theories and perceptions of democratic citizenship and human rights education. Conceptual understanding and didactic approaches to democracy, citizenship and human rights in the school context are essential. Research and studies of the school's democracy education and human rights education in politics and practice are given emphasis, including comparative perspectives.

• has in-depth knowledge of key didactic theories and concepts within the areas of democracy and citizenship
• has advanced knowledge of human rights and its various dimensions, and of didactic theories and research related to human rights learning
• has relevant knowledge about the relationship between democracy and human rights, and its implications concerning educational approaches.

• has professional competence to implement relevant democracy-and human rights education in various ways and levels in school.
• can evaluate various theories and perceptions of democracy, and discuss these critically in light of the school's democratic mandate.
• can discuss key research findings concerning democracy education.

Compulsory work

1 presentation and 1-2 written assignments. Attendance is required to carry out mandatory activities
