Assessment in language learning

The course provides insight into various theories of assessment and how assessment can promote learning in the language classroom. Particular attention will be paid to how assessment can promote pupils' learning and contribute to the development of language teachers' teaching. The course presents different approaches to assessment in language teaching. Emphasis is placed on developing relevant research questions in order to analyze and discuss academic dilemmas in assessment. The module also includes assessment in a digital perspective.

Knowledge

The student has

• thorough knowledge of national policy documents of assessment
• thorough insight into national and international research within assessment in an educational policy context
• in-depth knowledge of different forms of assessment in writing, reading and oral skills

Skills

The student can

• analyze and understand student learning in written and oral texts in relevant academic contexts as a basis for further learning
• analyze and critically relate to various theories of assessment and use these to structure and formulate professional reasoning
• formulate relevant research questions as a starting point for a limited research and development project

• analyze and discuss how teaching methods and methods of assessment contribute to students' language learning
• apply their knowledge and skills regarding assessment in language teaching in independent work
• communicate extensive independent work and communicate about academic issues, analyzes and conclusions within assessment in language teaching
