Vocational educational research and specialisation

Based on vocational practice, relevant theories and current research, the course will contribute to the students acquiring in-depth knowledge of the vocational research field. Students should contribute to innovation within vocational training in schools and businesses based on vocational and teaching practices.

Students should be able to discuss challenges and opportunities in vocational practice, research and theories through analysis of professional issues, as well as discuss the place of vocational subjects in society. Furthermore, students should be able to assess the quality of various sources of information and critically analyse the content. Students should acquire digital skills, including literature searches and referencing, and should be able to use various multimodal and digital forms of representation.

The candidate has

• Advanced knowledge of vocational practices in their own and others’ subject areas
• Advanced knowledge of vocational training in school and business
• In-depth knowledge of relevant theories and current research in the vocational field
• In-depth knowledge of relevant subject and vocational educational issues based on the traditions, characteristics and place of the vocational subjects in society

The candidate can

• Critically relate to and assess various sources of information
• Formulate professional arguments and discuss vocational educational issues
• Use multimodal and digital forms of representation for communication of vocational educational work
• Use digital tools for systematic work with development of their own teaching and documentation
• Carry out their own literature searches and use referencing in scientific texts

• Communicate and apply their knowledge and skills to contribute to professional development and innovation within vocational training in school and business
• Actively participate in democratic group processes and contribute to a learning environment characterised by mutual respect, equality and interaction

Lectures, seminars and work individually/in groups. Fixed basic groups are organised at the beginning of the semester. The course is based on practical experiences from vocational work and teaching. This forms the basis for tasks, presentations, discussions and reflections.

Mandatory activities

Participation in mandatory activities on and between seminars, both individually and in groups. The implementation of presentations and other mandatory activities/mandatory assignments requires attendance at the collections.

Mandatory assignments

Three mandatory assignments (oral, digital/multimodal, practical). Mandatory assignments are assessed as approved/not approved and must be accepted for students to be allowed to take the exam.
