About this course

Content

Geodetic basis for surveying and mapping. Instrumentation: Gradient binoculars, theodolite, total station. Measurement teaching: Leveling, angle measurement and distance measurement, related to single point calculations, triangulation, height measurement, detail measurement, launching work and tunnel measurement. Satellite Geodesy (GNSS). Machine control. Orientation on Norwegian mapping and surveying in the public sector. Geographic Information System (GIS). Collection and presentation of established information. Management of geographical information in digital terrain models. Ethics string: Quality assessment of measurements, source criticism, planning of engineering assignments. Digital String: Digital proficiency with digital terrain models in DAK tools, digital processing skills with MS Office and DAK tools, digital collaboration skills in engineering engineering planning, source critical assessment skills for geographical information.

Learning outcomes

KNOWLEDGE The candidate should have basic knowledge of instruments and measurement methods using levels, total station and GNSS equipment. The candidate should know the most common manual and computer assisted calculation and drawing methods used. The candidate should know different standards of digital geographical information and how such data can be transferred between different computer systems. The candidate will be familiar with methods for quality assessment of measurements performed. The candidate will be familiar with how to collect and handle geographical information in digital terrain models.

SKILLS The candidate must be able to perform engineering assessment tasks using levels, total station and GNSS equipment, and could process this by using computer surveying software. The candidate should be able to computer surveying software for map and digital terrain models. The candidate should be able to exchange geographical information between different computer systems through practical tasks.

GENERAL COMPETENCE The candidate shall have good skills in the use of professional sources, professional methods, applicable laws and regulations, as well as standards for planning, engineering, surveying, construction, management.
