Geomatics

Geomatics: Geodetic basis for surveying and mapping. Instrumentation: autolevels, theodolite, total station, LIDAR and GNSS. Measurement teaching: Angle measurement, altitude measurement and distance measurement, related to single point, altitude measurement, detail measurement, survey staking, satellite geodesy (GNSS) and LIDAR. Guidance on Norwegian mapping and surveying under public auspices and ethical choices to be made in a planning process. Geographic Information System (GIS). Collection and presentation of established information. Management of geographical information in digital terrain models.

KNOWLEDGE The candidate has broad knowledge of instruments and measurement methods in which surveying equipment is used. The candidate is familiar with the most common manual and computerized calculation and terrain methods used. The candidate should be familiar with different standards for geographical information and how such data can be transferred between different computer systems. The candidate should know the methods for quality assessment of measurements taken. The candidate should have knowledge of how geographical information can be collected and handled in terrain models. SKILLS The candidate should be able to perform engineering measurement tasks using surveying equipment and be able to process this using computer tools. The candidate should be able to use computer tools to aid in the production of maps and digital terrain models. Through practical assignments, the candidate should be able to exchange geographic information between different computer systems. GENERAL COMPETENCE The candidate has acquired skills in the use of professional sources, professional methods, relevant laws and regulations, as well as standards for planning, design, surveying, construction, management.
