Artistic Experiment

In this course the student will begin immersing into a contemporary artistic practice through participation in the first-year show, group interaction and independent or collaborative projects. Students will focus on manifesting artistic projects in various ways with an emphasis on collaboration.

Experiences from the first year show will be discussed, processed and evaluated together with peers and supervisors and lead to new projects.

The coursework is based on experimentation, development, and reflection through artistic practice, related research and growing competence, which is at the core of the BFA programme.

From the very beginning, students are encouraged to develop an artistic practice in collaboration with fellow students and in dialogue with supervisors. Presenting, exhibiting or performing work is a central part of their learning.

Upon completion of the course the student will:

• have a deeper knowledge of contemporary art theory and discourse.
• have begun developing a critical language to discuss art.
• experiment with and evaluate different methods, media and materials to build competence within the artistic practice.
• show and present artistic work and engage with collective artistic working methods.

Participation in technical and thematic courses and collaborative projects.

Co-organising and realising the 1st year show including presentation of the work and interaction with peers and academic mentors in group settings.

Supervision with fellow students and supervisors.

Supervision is documented and documentation is exchanged between supervisors and students to support the student progression.

Interaction in group settings with fellow students and supervisors.

Formal evaluation (Progress Review): consists of delivery of documentation and written self-reflection delivered in Inspera, followed by an oral presentation at the end of term.

Participation in learning activities such as supervision, group interactions and course specific seminars and projects is mandatory.

Specific conditions

Approved compulsary assignments are valid in the current semester.

This course is offered to incoming exchange students and will be taught in English if necessary.
