Individual Artistic Work

To begin to immerse oneself in artistic practices through participation in courses and workshops and work with a self-initiated project.

To deepen knowledge of contemporary art theory and discourse
To begin to develop a critical language to discuss art
To test out and evaluate different methods, media and material to build competence within the student’s individual artistic practice.

Participation in elective courses, workshops or seminars. This can include continuing/advanced courses in various techniques/media/workshops, as well as thematic courses and projects. This part of the programme will vary from year to year, where the content will be determined by current professors. The minimum requirement is that students register for and complete at least one elective course per semester. Completion of the course will be part of the criteria for semester assessment.
Contemporary art history & theory part 2: case studies focussing upon current tendencies within international contemporary art. Participation in the course is obligatory for 1st. Year BFA students.
Critical writing: A short introductory course on critical writing around art. The course will utilise the city’s museums and galleries as source material.
Tutorials with main supervisor and second supervisor, and development of an individual art project to be planned and developed during the semester.
A short text summing up the semester and contextualising individual practice to date is delivered to main and second supervisors at an agreed date before the formal semester assessment in May.
The common NTNU introductory course may take place this semester.
