Introductions will also be given to basal immunology. Practical lab studies include comparative anatomy and physiology of Atlantic salmon and at least one marine species available. Studies also include evaluation of organ histology and stress experiments.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:

On completion of the course the student should have obtained valuable skills in fish anatomy and physiology including regulatory mechanisms.

Skills:

The student should be able to design and perform tests of fish osmoregulatory capacity, establish sedation, perform blood sampling, and examine simple histological preparations from fish.

Teaching methods

Lectures: 30 hours with a combination of oral and online lectures. Distribution may vary from year to year.

Laboratory course: 2 mandatory exercises
