Introduction to Aquaculture

The course provides an introduction to practical, biologocal, technological and research aspects of fish and shellfish farming, and cultivation of other aquatic organisms. This includes aspects of importance for broodstock management, fry production, the growout period, farming technology, environment, as well as economy, product development and marketing. The course also provides a short introduction to the organizing structure of the industry.

On completion of the course the students have gained knowledge in biological, technological, practical and research aspects of fish- and shellfish farming, cultivation of other aquatic organisms, and international aquaculture. Characteristics and environmental requirements for the different life stages of cultivated organisms should be known. Students should also understand the organisational structure of the industry.
