Faglig innhold

In this course concepts of cultural psychology are emphasised and various theories will be provided and discussed. The fundament of cultural psychology and cross-cultural research is examined and contemporary schools of cultural psychology are emphasised, especially traditions dealing with cultural conflicts and conflict transformation. The social change processes and methods including dialogue groups, organisational and community based interventions as well as interventions related to the induvidual and small groups are also given priority. Challenges related to the public health care system will be discussed. The user perspective in evaluation of health care as well as the cultural content of disorders and illnesses are central topics.

Læringsmål

The course will provide the students with an insight into the theory and method of cultural psychology, including recent research.

Læringsformer og aktiviteter

Mandatory syllabus: Lectures, seminars, project work 3 hours per week. In addition comes self-study. Admission to one of the following programmes is required: Master of Science in Psychology, Master of Philosophy in Human Development. Exchange students interested in the course must consult the Department for possible admission.
