Mass balance calculations for cementitious systems. Fundamentals of thermodynamic modelling. Prediction of pore solutions, hydration and phase changes.
Læringsmål
The course should provide the students with an understanding of the possibilities and limitations of thermodynamic modelling and enable them to do typical calculations independently and to interpret the obtained results. Knowledge - Understanding of the principles of mass balance calculations - Understanding of the principles of thermodynamic modelling - Basic knowledge on thermodynamic data - Basic knowledge on the possibilities of mass balance calculations and short introduction to thermodynamic modelling - Awareness of errors and pitfalls Skills - Ability to use - ternary diagrams to calculate hydrate composition of cementitious materials, considering limitations and pitfalls - GEMS to calculate hydrate composition of cementitious materials - GEMS to calculate saturation indices - GEMS to assess chemical interaction with the environment General competence: - Ability to reflect and argue on a scientific basis - Ability to use thermodynamic modelling for interpretation of experimental data.
Læringsformer og aktiviteter
Four days intensive course. Lectures and exercises including presentations by participants. Reading and preparation of a short presentation before course. A short written report applying the acquired knowledge and skills to own research. The lectures, exercises and reporting are in English. To pass the course participation and an approved report are required. A fee covering lecture material, meals etc. will be applied.
