This course provides an introduction to object-oriented programming. Solid programming skills are essential within the Master's Program on Simulation and Visualization, and the methods taught in this course will be applied throughout the rest of the Master's Program. Students who already have good programming skills should choose IE501514 Distributed Programming instead.
The main themes in this course include:
• Classes and objects.
• Object interaction and grouping.
• Abstract classes, interfaces and inheritance.
• Testing and debugging.
• Best design practices: low coupling and high cohesion.
• Basic algorithms and data structures.
• Procedural programming, compared to object-oriented programming.
Læringsmål
Knowledge:
• Basic concepts of object-oriented programming.
• Best practices in object-oriented programming.
• Know the use of Integrated Development Environments (IDE).
Skills:
• Be able to understand, extend programs written by others.
• Be able to test and debug object-oriented programs.
• Be able to apply object-oriented programming to develop applications.
General competence:
• Understand advantages and limitations of object-oriented programming.
• Be able to discuss programming concepts with other programmers.
Læringsformer og aktiviteter
Lectures, video lectures and exercises with supervision.
Mandatory hand-in assignments:
Obligatory exercises which have to be submitted at given deadlines. In order to get the access to the exam, the student should have delivered all obligatory exercises at the given deadlines and got them accepted. The number of obligatory exercises, as well as the deadlines, will be announced at the start of the course.
