Field Methods in Physical Geography

The course focuses on relevant field methods in Physical geography for mapping surface and subsurface characteristics. The course will be carried out in a combination of theoretical lectures and demonstrations, before the participants embark on focused field projects in smaller groups in the Ny Ålesund area. After field work, data analysis and postprocessing will be demonstrated, and all participants are required to deliver a group-based field report after the field course, with deadline November 15th 2015. Field projects will partly build on previous research projects in the area and will add data to these projects. The field course thus implements the different methodologies within a realistic project setting and with the purpose of acquiring scientific data.

The course shall give the participants: • Ability to select and implement relevant advanced field methodology • The necessary theoretical foundation for using this methodology for research purposes • Acquire skills in interpretation, data processing and presentation within a realistic project setting
