Læringsmål
A student who has completed this course should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge
By the end of the course, students will:
- be able to design and develop a cartographical output, using Geographic Information System (GIS);
- understand the fundamentals of map design;
- understand the fundamentals of remote sensing;
- critically evaluate and generate a map product.
- have fundamentals of cartography and geography communication.
Skills
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- work with different remote sensing data: optical and radar satellite images;
- produce thematic maps;
- work and develop a workflow in Google Earth Engine environment;
- collect and visualize geo-data in a GIS environment.
General competence
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- produce effective visual representation of spatial data;
- evaluate remote sensing images;
- evaluate the whole map production workflow.
Læringsformer og aktiviteter
Up to 16 hours lectures, 16 hours practical GIS-exercises.
The course will be held in English. It is expected that the assignments, the final individual individual mapping project and the final written exam are completed in English. Exceptions must be clarified with the main coordinator of the course at the beginning of the semester.
Students admitted to Master in Geography or Geography With Teacher Education interested in developing a Master thesis in physical geography topics and students interested in using GIS methodologies can choose GEOG3523 as a compulsory methodology course.
