Linear induction motors: Principles, classification and applications. Linear induction motors (LIMs): construction aspects: flat, tubular, windings. Airgap field equation. Design criterion: the goodness factor. Skin and edge effects. LIM equivalent circuit. Performance characteristics. Linear PM synchronous motors (LPMSMs): Basic configurations. Fields.forces.d-q model. Vector diagrams. Steady state characteristics-with flux weakening. Vector control of LPM design methodology and examples. Plunger solenoids. The non linear circuit model. Design methodology by example. Motion control ofsolenoids-magnetic levitation. Linear oscilomotors: A few topoloies and their characterisation, coil mover, PM mover, Iron-mover with stator-PMs. The circular coil unipolar LOM design and example: rectangular coil LOM. The stator PM iron-mover LOM-princiole, theory, startingtransiens, perfomance and design methodology by example.
Læringsmål
Give a deep understanding of the aplication of linear electrical machines in offshore and maritime applications, such as actuators and reciprocating motors/generators.
Læringsformer og aktiviteter
The teaching is based on a colloqium approach, where each topic is briefly presented before a more detailed discussion takes place. All participants must prepare before each colloqium.
The course is given every second year, next time spring 2010.
