Om emnet

Faglig innhold

On completion of the course students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of methods used to evaluate effects of environmental pollutants in nature. The course will familiarize students with different species as well as different cellular, biochemical, structural, physiological, behavioural and ecological methods. Emphasis is put both on experimental studies in the laboratory, and on materials sampled from the field.

Before the exam student reports must be approved.

Læringsmål

The students will gain knowledge on state-of-the-art molecular and cellular methods in ecotoxicology and discussion on trending methodologies in ecotoxicology. In addition, they will gain knowledge on the molecular mechanisms of toxicological responses at physiological and general health status, after exposure to environmental contaminants. The students also train on writing scientific reports using their generated laboratory training data as starting point and also gain knowledge on how to discuss and interpret scientific data together with their peers.

The skills the students will obtain from this course include expertise on trending molecular and cellular approaches and methodologies in ecotoxicology. They also gain skills in the interpretation, discussion, writing and general communication of scientific data.

The general competence and ability to work in any laboratory or establishment that applies molecular and cellular approaches and methodologies is gained. Above all, the students gain the general competence for further training in ecotoxicology both for the master and doctorate degree, through interpretation, discussion, writing and general communication of scientific results.
