Global sourcing and supply network management

Knowledge: - Have thorough knowledge of theory and models of global value chains and supply networks - Have in-depth knowledge with respect to strategic drivers and risks of global sourcing - Understand how costs can be managed for better value creation - Develop a certain awareness of ethical issues that can arise when sourcing globally Skills: - Be able to model the supply network of a firm - Be able to analyze which country a firm should consider for their sourcing projects - Be able to assess a make-buy decision in analytical and strategic terms Competence: - Be able to apply strategic thinking to sourcing decisions and communicate this with various stakeholders

The course consist of a combination of lectures, casework, discussions and presentations. The course is designed as three-hour lectures, each with one main topic. In each session, a lecture is combined with discussions of the core literature or a case. All required readings should be completed before the actual lecture. Guest lecturers will facilitate application of global sourcing concepts and theories to real-life business situations. Mandatory attendance is required during guest lecture sessions. If the candidate does not attend he/she must hand in a two page assignment covering the topic lectured in order to get access to take the school exam.
