Temperature Physiology

On completion of the course students should have a thoroughly understanding of the mechanisms that regulate the body's temperature. Subjects covered include: central nervous regulation of body temperature; the effect of temperature on biological processes; physiological adaptations to changing temperatures in endoterm and ectoterm animals - under here metabolic adaptations to hypotermy; biochemical adaptations in composition of enzymes and lipids and mechanisms to avoid or tolerate freezing of body fluids. The course goes every second year, next time 2017, 2019.

On completion of the course students should have a thoroughly understanding of the mechanisms that regulate the body's temperature. Students should also have knowledge of topics such as: central nervous regulation of body temperature; the effect of temperature on biological processes; physiological adaptations to changing temperatures in endoterm and ectoterm animals.
