Introduction to Research Methods in Counselling and Adult Learning

The course provides a basic introduction to research methods in social science that are used in counselling and adult learning. Through lectures, seminarts, exercises and assignments, the student will acquire basic insight into and knowledge about how to plan and carry out simple qualitative and quantitative research designs. In addition, the student will learn how to analyse, interpret, report and evaluate data.

The student has basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills required in social science research methods used in adult learning and counselling. The student can evaluate implications of the choice of method for the selection of informants, data collection and analyses. The student has basic insight into different scientific traditions and research ethics.
