Career and Life Span

Career and lifespan are key topics in adult learning and counseling science. The course addresses career choices and career development in a lifespan perspective, and looks into the position of competence and learning in a changing society and working life. The focus is on theories that are relevant to understand career and lifespan. Career is understood as a continuous process of interpretations and revisions that entails learning and development. The student gets an introduction to theories that relate to competence development, and career choice. For example concepts as role, relation and identity are vital to shed light on how phases, events and transitions are shaped and managed. The interaction between the individual and the environment is central to understanding career in a lifespan perspective.

The student has knowledge of relevant concepts, theories and perspectives and has a foundation of knowledge to understand career and lifespan. The student has theoretical and practical knowledge of how one can facilitate good career choices, and understanding of how career choice and learning is actualized and formed in the interplay between the individual and the ever changing society. On this background the student has the ability to discuss career and lifespan challenges in today's society.
