About this course

Content

The summer school will focus on circular manufacturing. Learning content will be updated but is included in the following modules and lectures:

Module: Introduction to Industry 4.0 Lectures: - Introduction to the summer-school and Industry 4.0 - Introduction to Sustainable Development and Circular Economy - Concepts of circular manufacturing and eco-systems for manufacturing

Module: System design for manufacturing Lectures: - Sustainable Manufacturing systems - Introduction to the IIRA and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) - Introduction to Enterprise Architecture - Life cycle planning  - Designing the circular manufacturing system - Resuse and maintenance management for manufacturing

Module: Product design for circular manufacturing Lectures: - Material selection and recycling - Design for X; disassembly, remanufacturing, reverse logistics, geometry and tolerance selection - Novel business models and product -service -systems

Module: Modelling of circular manufacturing Lectures: - Modelling of circular manufacturing using network modelling methods - Modelling of circular manufacturing using system dynamics modelling - Modelling of circular manufacturing using discrete event modelling

Learning outcomes

After having successfully completed the course, students are expected to have mastered the following learning outcomes: Knowledge -Knowledge of advanced research in and understanding of academic theory of sustainable and circular manufacturing. -Knowledge about manufacturing systems design, necessary processes for Industry 4.0 manufacturing -Knowledge about modelling methods for analysis and selection of solutions. Skills -Ability to select appropriate research methods and techniques. -Ability to understand and challenge the existing knowledge and practice in sustainable and circular manufacturing. -Ability to model and analyse manufacturing systems, with relevant viewpoints for holistic modeling and architectures. General competence -The student will be able to understand and assess sustainable manufacturing concepts an apply this to industry cases. -The student will be able to analyse and select novel business models in a Industry 4.0 perspective. -The student will be able to communicate research and development work through recognized Norwegian and international channels

Teaching methods

Summer school lectures, presentations. Group work - Industrial case studies. Project report/article
