About this course

Content

Drone photogrammetry can give us the opportunity to perform data capture and digitalization of areas with high level of detail, and can be a sustainable alternative or supplement to more traditional data capture methods.

The course main content is photogrammetric processing of optical images acquired with drone, including evaluation of the results.

Main topics:

  • Introduction to photogrammetry
  • Horizontal and vertical datums, coordinate systems and projections
  • Height systems (vertical datums)
  • Camera and camera models
  • Positioning of sensor
  • Ground contol– (GNSS, Total station)
  • Interpretation of results
  • Further processing of results
  • Workflow, software

The course does not include the process of flying a drone and relevant laws and regulations.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:

After completing the course, the candidate shall:

  • Be able to explain basic theory relevant for photogrammetry
  • Be able to explain possibilities and limitations for drone photogrammetry
  • Be able to explain data capture and processing of optical images acquired with drone
  • Be able to explain critical parameters for acquisition of optical images using drone
  • Know about and communicate basic possibilities for further processing of point clouds and orthomosaics
  • Know about and be able to reference relevant Norwegian standards

Skills:

After completing the course, the candidate shall:

  • Be able to organize, edit and process optical images and their metadata
  • Be able to calculate and document quality of results using ground control points
