German Grammar 3

Based on the grammatical knowledge the students have acquired in the basic modules, the course conveys a more comprehensive insight into grammar descriptions and grammar theory. The course can also, as one of several topics, give an introduction to selected linguistic methods that will be relevant for future bachelor's and master's theses in German language. The course covers two to three topics within modern German linguistics. Through their involvement with topics that are particularly relevant from a contrastive German-Norwegian perspective, the students are also given the opportunity to reflect on the relationship between grammar theory and practical German skills.

The candidate

- has extensive knowledge of key issues and methods in modern German grammar

- is conscious of significant differences between Norwegian and German phrase structure

- masters key terminology within modern German grammar

PROFICIENCY

The candidate

- masters relevant linguistic tools of analysis

- is able to utilise relevant grammars, dictionaries and reference books

- is able to discuss and convey key issues within and points of view on modern German grammar

GENERAL COMPETENCE

The candidate

- is able to update and broaden their knowledge of modern German grammar

- is able to reflect on linguistic differences between Norwegian and German and make use of this in both oral and written German

Lectures, seminars and and online activities. This course will make use of flexible teaching forms, and a high degree of student activity is required.

The course is taught exclusively in German.

Compulsory assignment:

- 1 written assignment (approx. 2000 words) in German.

- 75% mandatory attendance (in lectures and seminars)

The absence limit is intended to cover normal sick leave and similar situations. Therefore, you will not be granted valid absence from teaching based on a medical certificate, even if the absence is due to circumstances beyond your control.

In special cases, agreements for exemption can be made with the course coordinator, preferably at the start of the semester.

Approved obligatory assignment is valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester).
